There has been a lot of debate as to the meaning of your painting “Let’s Make a Deal” within the Fantasy Hero Complete community. Could you explain what exactly what was running through your head as you created this piece? Is the dragon trying to work a deal to save is life? Are the dragon and the woman in cohoots? What? Thanks.
I’d be happy to. First off though I need to give credit to Jason Walters as the commission was largely his idea. The first thing is that Hero wants all the people on their covers to look happy (smiling, smirking, laughing, etc…) i.e. having a good time. This is a game and people should have fun. Obviously that presents a lot of challenges, how do you show a battle with everyone smiling?
Jason’s idea was to have a defeated dragon negotiating for his life. I imagine the dragon saying something like,” Take what you want from my treasure, but if you let me live I will gladly tell you where my brother the evil blue dragon lives.”
Additionally Jason wanted me to make sure that the lady took center stage. She’s the badass in control of the Dragon’s life. In an earlier version I had the scene zoomed out, and the Dragon was huge. Jason commented that it was about the Lady Conquistador, not the Dragon.
